'Mad Cows' Make People Mad

.
As of today, about 200 protesters have been arrested in our country as a lot of people holding candlelight vigils against U.S beef import. I can hardly understand the government's firm attitude against the people claiming to revise the beef import pack with US owing to the possibility of BSE or mad cow disease. Moreover president Lee Myung-bak, the other day, made an apology for causing anxiety to the people in relation to the U.S. beef import. Is Mr. Lee sure of eating imported meat of cattle older than 30 months? Absolutely not.

As usual, the conservative media are taking a big share of deceiving people in a distorted manner. Here is one example showing well their double standard for one issue. When the ex-president Roh Mu-hyun, about 10 months ago, drove to import meat of cattle younger than 30 months, the media criticized in chorus saying that Mr. Roh threatens the public health. However, after the new administration sets in, the risk of beef suddenly has turned into being safe. What an absurd report!

I'm not against the import of American beef. There is no one objecting to beef of a cheap, good quality. What all of us want is fair trade for the public health. It's shameful if our country is thrown into confusion by a foolish leader and the commercial media. Now, the government should pay attention to the people's opinions before inviting unexpected bigger trouble.
