Funeral Bier

.

.
Though it is now a thing of the past, I used to see the funeral procession, in my childhood, during which a lot of people carried the 'Sangyo', funeral bier to transfer the dead to the grave, on their shoulders. The bier was generally decorated with dragons and Chinese phoenix paintings. Around the bier, colorfully decorated dolls were placed to guard the deceased. The procession leader would sing a deep and mournful song; at the back of the bier, family members, relatives and friends would follow. As time goes by, the pathetic song is placed as a distant memory in the corner of my mind. That's why I enjoy listening to Pansori, our traditional music.
